Job Description

The selected candidate would teach Spanish classes meeting graduation requirements for grades 9-12, at Vista Grande High School. The Spanish educator will create a learning environment which allows students to have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth. This person will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program and for providing direct instruction in subject matter and skills that will result in student achievement in accordance with each student’s ability.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and implement a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students, complies with NM PED state standards, and meets graduation requirements.
  2. Teach 4PBL curricular units that focus on the 4Ps: Place, Phenomenon, Problem, Project.
  3. Facilitate Spanish instruction that includes fieldwork and interactions with experts. 
  4. Leverage curriculum that explores the history and evolution of the Spanish language and culture. 
  5. Design projects, products, and authentic service-learning. 
  6. Help students articulate theories, arguments, claims and understanding through rich discourse and writing. 
  7. Reward curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful questioning.
  8. Write learning targets to address concepts knowledge and understanding, as well as language proficiency. 
  9. Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth. Keep appropriate records and prepare timely progress reports. 
  10. Identify pupil needs and make referrals as needed. Develop strategies for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  11. Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and/or other experiential activities. Guide students in learning from these activities. 
  12. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to language learning and fosters cultural understanding and appreciation. 
  13. Utilize a variety of authentic resources and technologies to enhance instruction and engage students in meaningful language practice. 
  14. Assess student progress through a variety of methods, including oral presentations, written assignments, projects, and formal assessments. Provide timely and constructive feedback. 
  15. Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure student success and contribute to the overall Spanish language program.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Four year degree or higher
  • Valid Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain such in proper time frames), with appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught issued by NMPED

Preferred:

  • At least one year’s previous teaching experience
  • Multilingual
  • Demonstrated knowledge for subjects/levels being taught
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff
  • Endorsement in Special Education
