Job Description

Under the direction of the EHS Manager AMUSA (direct) / Plant Managers (indirect) , the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for managing the Environmental, Health, and Safety program at the Chesterton and South Holland locations and provide EHS support to Novi and Livonia locations to advance safety programs and to maintain regulatory compliance. Under the direction of EHS Manager, ensure that Andritz Metals USA Inc policies, procedures and programs are implemented at each facility, as well as maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.

Requirements

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items

1. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining environmental programs including air and hazardous/non-hazardous waste. Ensure employees are trained, monitor of waste on site, coordinate sampling, arrange for timely removal of waste and report to the regulatory bodies as required by law.

2. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the safety program and providing the necessary information and assistance to supervisory personnel for the execution of their safety and environmental responsibilities.This includes utilization of Behavior Based Safety principles.

3. The EHS Specialist manages the EHS programs in the following ways:

  • Performs daily activities focused on employee safety, health, and environmental protection.
  • Lead safety committees comprised of supervisory and hourly personnel and schedule monthly meetings. Participate in the corporate monthly safety meetings.
  • Maintains electronic and hard copy EHS documentation including written programs, SDS’s, audits, training, incidents, and many others.
  • Assist in the development of safety orientation and training materials for new or reassigned employees.Such materials may include Job Hazard Analyses, safety rules, and safety meetings. Perform new employee orientation and safety training.
  • Develop an annual safety training plan, provide monthly safety training as planned, and maintain all safety training records.
  • Maintain a Contractor Safety Program and perform both safety and process related training to Contractors performing work for this facility.
  • Manages Business Continuity Plan and other emergencies.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly ESG reporting.
  • Perform monthly safety inspections. Maintain supply of first aid supplies and stocks all first aid cabinets.
  • Evaluate PPE for each process and ensure training is performed for its proper use including respirator fit testing.
  • Oversees hazardous waste removal, labeling, storage and handling procedures.
  • Manages sample collection and lab result review.
  • Monitor environmental activities to ensure regulatory permit requirements are met.

4. Support maintenance of ISO certifications.

5. Perform required reporting to all regulatory bodies including but not limited to IDEM, IOSHA, FMCSA, IDEM, EPA and DOT.

Technology

  • Experienced with Microsoft office suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.

  • 3 plus years’ experience
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001and ISO 14001
