Attorney Development Training Manager

Hybrid Schedule (3 days onsite in Manhattan, NY)

Base Salary: $155,000 - $175,000

The Opportunity

  • We are seeking an Attorney Development Training Manager to join our Firm. This individual will manage the development and execution of attorney learning curricula in the New York office, collaborating on content and delivery methods with team members across the Firm. The individual will engage with attorneys and consultants to design, deliver, and assess training programs. This position will work closely with the senior training manager to supervise the daily operations in New York, ensuring efficient functionality and alignment with the department and the Firm’s objectives. Oversees, develops, enhances, reviews, and maintains the attorney learning curricula for the New York office and actively participates in learning programs.
  • Manages learning events (retreats); supervises employees and program logistics while at on and off-sites.
  • Contributes innovative ideas to programs, stays current on technology and trends in the learning space.
  • Researches and vets learning vendors and makes facilitator/presenter recommendations.
  • Responsible for vendor contracts specific to learning initiatives; works with the GCs office on agreement language and amendments.
  • Works closely with CLE team members to align credits with programming.
  • Manages the Business Development Academy collaborating with various business services professionals groups and attorneys throughout the Firm.
  • Oversees and creates content for the Attorney Learning site.
  • Leads the learning orientation for lateral associates.
  • Coordinates with Senior Manager on attorney bar admission and registration/compliance.
  • Oversees and approves attorney bar expenses.
  • Ensures current knowledge of Firm policies and practices, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for business services professionals.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection, and training process.
  • Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to higher level management.
  • Manages and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations, and long-range learning plans.
  • Works closely with Senior Manager on performance evaluations for the NY office learning team.
  • Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
  • Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
  • Initiates disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent client service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
  • Develops, improves, and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Engages in strategic (i.e., long-range) planning by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for assigned department(s).
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Workday, WebEx/Zoom, Fliplet), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
  • Knowledge of business and legal forms and formats
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of seven years training experience in a law firm, and two years of managerial experience

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
